Nebrodi Living Lab
Incubator in the municipality of Galati Mamertino, in the province of Messina, to create professional figures in the food-environment-health sector
The Incubator
Nebrodi Living Lab is an incubator in the Municipality of Galati Mamertino, in the province of Messina, animated by the business grouping led by Euris with the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the University of Palermo and Italiacamp, working in synergy with the town mayors and the schools in the area.
The project aims to create highly specialised professional figures in the integrated food- environment-health sector who can apply their knowledge and skills to give life to new enterprises and renovate existing ones, thanks to advanced training and workshops and by leveraging a network of external supporters such as agricultural companies of excellence, local industries and manufactures as well as the network of research infrastructures accredited by the University of Palermo.
WORKING AREAS
- Green Economy and Agribusiness
- Health, Wellness and Personal Care
- Innovative tourism techniques for the cultural-natural enhancement of the area
The project, financed within the Area Interna Nebrodi strategy, by Measure No. 1.3.2 of the 2014-2020 Sicily ERDF OP, is developed thanks to the “Partnership for Innovation”, an innovative procedure of the Procurement Code.
Activities
The activities coordinated by Italiacamp involve young people to bring out talents, affinities, professional attitudes and possible business ideas.
This will also take place through discussions with enterprises in order to gather innovation needs and through the organisation of round tables with the PA and local associations to bring out specific needs and instances that can trigger further synergies with projects already active in the area.
The research and application development proposals coming from the university system or other channels will be pre-assessed from a business perspective. Researchers at the University of Palermo from the Tropical Fruit Growing and Plant Biotechnology, Applied Mycology and Botany, Botany and Forestry, and Industrial Design and Agricultural Economics laboratories will supervise the activities of the participants in the three Living Labs divided into ten working groups.
